CHAPS Equine Assisted Services, a group that provides equine services to the Sheridan area, has gratefully announced the non-profit has recently received several generous contributions.

According to a release from CHAPS, the organization received $20,000 from Johnson Foundation of the Rockies as well as $1,000 from Joe F. and Roberta H. Napier Foundation for general operations.

These funds will go to underwrite basic expenses like electricity, staff salaries, feed and care for the horses and other expenses.  The Johnson Foundation of the Rockies also supported the organization’s endowment fund with a gift of $5000.

CHAPS was also the recipient of $15,000 from the Joe & Arlene Watt Foundation for scholarships, a $10,000 grant from Newell B Sargent for scholarships, $4000 from Powder River Energy Corporation Foundation for scholarships and an additional $9,150 from LaRue Young Foundation for scholarships.

Participants at CHAPS benefit from services like adaptive riding or carriage driving, equine assisted learning and equine facilitated psychotherapy. The scholarship funds allow the organization to provide services to participants who may, otherwise, not be able to afford it. To date, in 2024, CHAPS has served 306 individuals  and 99% benefitted from full or partial scholarships.

In addition to these contributions, the LaRue Young Foundation also contributed $10,000 toward CHAPS’ property lease.

“We are so thankful to have these fantastic community members and organizations stepping up to support our mission,” CHAPS Executive Director Kristen Marcus said. “It takes a team effort to ensure we can meet our expenses and provide these needed services. We hope our donors know how much their generosity is appreciated.”
