The City Council and Mayor Rich Bridger gave third reading approval of an ordinance adopting a Downtown Development District Overlay and a Downtown Business District Overlay. City Planner Kelly Schroeder said that adoption of the two overlay district’s is the first step in preserving the historic character of downtown.

Use regulations stipulate that certain uses such as filling stations and vehicle sales shall follow the Special Exemption process and be reviewed by the Board of Adjustment prior to approval. Prohibited uses in the district include establishments containing six or more skill-based amusement games, one-family dwellings, outdoor storage as a primary use, and heavy industrial uses.
