Council, Firefighters Continue Negotiations

The Sheridan City Council held a special meeting Monday where several items were addressed; contract negotiations with the International Association of Firefighters Local Union #276; amending the contract with Interim City Administrator Mike Jackson and consideration of a resolution supporting an application for a Community Development Block Grant from the Wyoming Business Council. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.
After nearly an hour of negotiations between the City Council and representatives with the local firefighters union, it was agreed upon by both sides that more discussion is needed before the decision is made to go to arbitration. The Council is expected to hold a special meeting later this week to further discuss the union’s proposal.
The Council approved an amendment to the contract with Interim City Administrator Mike Jackson that will now pay him 75 percent of his current pay and allow him to work from his home in Washington state. City Attorney Brendon Kerns.
The Council also approved a resolution in support of a grant application for a Community Development Block Grant through the Wyoming Business Council to help purchase raw material that would be used to manufacture personal protection equipment for healthcare providers in Wyoming. Kerns said that one of the groups that is part of the statewide effort is Phorge Makerspace out of Sheridan.
The amount of funding that is available through the Business Council is $48,000.
