Sheridan College has announced their own professional ensemble-in-residence, Wyoming Baroque, will offer a special performance at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 4, in Kinnison Hall at the Whitney Center for the Arts.
Sheridan College’s Director of Strings and Orchestral Studies Dr. Mark Elliot Bergman directs this group of nationally known artists, who are currently on their “Consort of Nations” tour through the region. Recently, the group has performed in Laramie and Bozeman, and they will be coming from Cody after their performance at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West. In addition, the ensemble released three CDs, including the world-premiere recording of Giambattista Cimador’s arrangements of Mozart’s symphonies in 2022.
“Wyoming Baroque is thrilled to share this exciting – and far too infrequently performed – repertoire with audiences in the Cowboy State,” Bergman said.
According to their official website, the group brings together specializing in historically informed performances of 17th and 18th-century repertoire with featured baroque instruments. Bergman added that this concert will showcase works from composers from Europe, Africa, North America, and South America and their “unique musical language.”
“The 18th-century Baroque repertoire is far richer and more diverse than one might think if only exposed to well-known canonic works by Bach, Vivaldi, and Lully,” Bergman said. “This program features captivating and highly original works from composers hailing modern-day Mexico, Peru, Ghana, and the United States.”
