Businesses within the north side of the current closure area on the downtown Sheridan Main Street construction project are breathing a sigh of relief, because construction crews have realized the situation they were in, and they are adjusting plans to help them out.
Crews and WYDOT have announced that in about two weeks, they will begin paving Main Street from Alger Street to Grinnell Plaza, as well as the Main and Grinnell Plaza intersection, and anticipate reopening that section of the project to motor vehicle traffic in early October.
Currently, three blocks of Main Street between Alger and Loucks Streets are closed and last week Oftedal Construction had announced plans to pave all 3 blocks simultaneously, in order to save on costs and get everything reopened by the end of October.
That plan didn’t sit well with building and business owners between Alger Street and Grinnell Plaza, because what’s been further complicating things for them, is an unrelated private construction project that has East Alger Street closed between Main and Gould Streets.
WYDOT Sheridan Resident Engineer Jake Whisonant says those concerns were brought up by many at last week’s public meeting.
“Definitely got a lot of public feedback out of the meeting last week and spent some time visiting with the contractor, talking things over and they definitely understood the concern and did everything in their power to kind of adjust the schedule, and get paved through Grinnell as soon as possible.”
Whisonant adds with the change in the paving schedule, there is a possibility that work on Main Street between Grinnell Plaza and Loucks Street may not be finished until early November.
