Governor Gordon on Coronavirus

Whether you are speaking locally or on a larger scale, coronavirus has been a topic that many organizations have had to address and plan for. Wyoming Governor Mark Gordon gave an overview of where the state is in regards to the disease.
Governor Gordon said that some coronavirus test kits have been received by the state.
Traveling and tourism as a whole is one of the many industries hit hard by the illness. Gordon had this response when asked how that relates to Wyoming, given that tourism is one of the 3 main economic drivers in the state.
Of the six states that share a border with Wyoming, Utah, South Dakota, and Nebraska have all had 1-5 confirmed coronavirus cases, while Colorado has had 17. A Montana woman who is visiting Maryland has also tested positive, although it is not known where she contracted the virus at the time this story was published.

So with the Wyoming tourism industry hanging in the balance, let’s NOT add a new 5% tourism tax.
In 2018 we had a 6% sales tax in the county. We could have voted it down to 5% and not extended the 4% tourism tax county-wide. Instead, we foolishly doubled the tax from 5 to 10%. A 100% tax hike! Now, if Gov. Gordon imposes the new tax into law, it’s going up to 15%. Triple the tourism tax (from 5 to 15%) just as the world tourism trade collapses. Brilliant!
