On Saturday, August 26, the annual Story Days kicked off with a Fireman’s Breakfast, a pet run, and a parade. The weekend event actually started on Friday night with a cook-off and live music.

Grand Marshalls in the parade were Derrick and Peggy Burns riding in a horse-drawn carriage.

Included in the parade were floats from the Story Fish Hatchery, one promoting the duck races of the day, Fort Phil Kearny, the Kalif Oriental Band and Clowns, antique cars and the Sheridan WYO Rodeo Royalty on horseback.

Story resident Melissa Huckeba, who has lived in Story for three years, talked about the Story community and Story Days this year.

After the parade the crowd went to downtown Story, where there were vendors set up with face painting; re-purposed hand-painted bottles for vinegars, lotions and oils; and decorative crafts.

There was a silent auction and raffles with many items, and Mary Jackman, of the Story Day Committee, explained.

Items at the auction include stays at various resorts, several paintings and photographs,

Jackman said that although she didn’t have numbers on the turn out, she said it looked good and that there were a lot of people. She added that they had several great donations for the silent auction.

The Story Women’s Club had a 50/50 Raffle and served a lunch. Grace Chapel served hot dogs, chips, cookies and water for a donation. The small museum about Story history was open for the day as well.
