SCSD#1 Hears Back to School Reports

On Tuesday night, August 22, the SCSD#1 school administrators reported to the board about the first two days of back-to-school at Tongue River and Big Horn Schools.

One visitor, John Bridges, Big Horn, talked about the curriculum policy and his concerns about having a social worker in the classroom talking to elementary children about feelings, coping with anxiety and other issues he felt were not part of the health curriculum.

Colby Lynch talked about Tongue River High School, and about the school’s commitment to excellence. He said they are focused on moving from good to great,

Brian Lawson, Principal at Big Horn Middle School, talked about upcoming events at his school.

BHHS Principal Al Sparkman reported that he talked to the BHHS teachers about leadership.

He added that there were costs to being a leader, and he named three things that great leaders had to be prepared to do.

Sparkman also said he would communicate with the board with weekly phone call outs and keep them informed of what is going on at BHHS.

Jeremy Smith, business manager, reported that the district was short two transportation professionals, and Superintendent Jeff Jones reported that the school is fully accredited for the upcoming year. A new playground at Big Horn was discussed by the board as well. The board voted to approve the new lunch prices, two early graduation requests and approved the CSVA handbook.

Next meeting will be held on September 19 at 6 p.m.
