A revamp to a playground on Sheridan’s north side has become a popular attraction for youngsters.
Construction of the new Bondi playground, located on the northeast corner of 11th Street and Dana Avenue, recently finished on Tuesday, August 8th, the Sheridan Recreation District along with the Sheridan County Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate its opening.
The new playground cost about $213,000 to build and is ADA compliant, plus has a turf base at the bottom instead of wood chips, which one might find at most other playgrounds.
Sheridan Recreation District Executive Director Alex Mock says a recent needs study done by the city showed that the Bondi Playground was the one that in the most need of being revamped, and children didn’t waste any time once the new playground was ready to go.
“It’s been a playground that has not had a lot of utilization and the day that we completed it, we could see footprints that were on the playground already, even before the surfacing was put in, so we know that this was something that was needed in this neighborhood, as well as in this community as well too.”
Mock adds the only thing that still needs to be done is to have an ADA compliant walkway constructed to connect the playground to the adjacent parking lot.
