Smokejumpers have put out what has been reported as the first wildland fire within Yellowstone National Park.

Sometime this past Saturday (July 22nd), a visitor reported that the fire was located between Little Cottonwood Creek and Hellroaring Mountain.

That area is along the Wyoming-Montana border.

Four smokejumpers from West Yellowstone, Montana were able to suppress and extinguish the blaze, which ended up burning about 0.1 acres of land.

The fire level danger within Yellowstone National Park is labeled as high, and campfires are only permitted within established fire rings in campgrounds and some backcountry campsites.
