cvannoyFollow in the footsteps, hoofprints and stagecoach tracks of history this July as Explore History will debut “History on the Soldier Ridge Trail: A Walking Tour” – Sheridan Community Land Trust’s newest way people can connect to land and history.
As long as humans have lived in our valley, the corridor from Soldier Creek to the Bighorns and beyond has been a vital travel route. Get outdoors in a healthy, fun way and learn about what has unfolded within easy view of the trail as you are among the first people take this tour.
Attendees will learn about Plains Indian Tribes, the Sibley Scouts, the Bozeman Trail, stagecoaches, mail routes, ranching, conservation and so much more!
There are two opportunities to experience History on the Soldier Ridge Trail in person.
The first will be on Explore History with The Hub, Tuesday, July 11. Meet at The Hub at 9 a.m. to ride the Fun Bus or carpool. You can also join us directly at the Soldier Ridge Trailhead.
The second date will be at the TRVCC, Tuesday, July 25. Participants will meet at the TRVCC in Dayton at 8:30 a.m. to ride the bus to Sheridan. You can also join us directly at the Soldier Ridge Trailhead at 9 a.m.
This Explore History program offers open conversation for community members to share their memories or historical information about these sites and events. Explore History is funded thanks to the Next50 Initiative.
Directions to the trailhead: From Sheridan, travel west on 5th Street (Hwy. 330) – about five minutes from downtown Sheridan. When the pavement turns to gravel, take the second left and cross a cattle guard. Turn right into the trailhead parking area.
