SCSD#2 Board Recognizes Outstanding Students

Several students were recognized for their achievements at the June 12 SCSD#2 Board meeting. High School Principal Scott Cleland talked about the WHSAA Good Sportsmanship Award recipients from the SHS vs. South High School Boys Soccer games on 3/24/23. The recipients were Cael Gilbertson and Mark Gilbert as well as Coach Wade Kinsey.

Cleland also announced that Cameron Reckard was named 2023 US Presidential Scholar Katelyn Reckard talked about the Model United Nations National Qualifiers.
SHS art teacher Bob Hanchett announced the Sage Gallery Artist Reception Scholarships, Bridger Mortensen, Cristal Brambila-Rico, & Taylor Kysar, who were awarded $1000, $2500 and $5000 scholarships respectively.
Board Trustee Wadell commented on the quality of art work that had been displayed at the Sage Gallery. “It was incredible and I was so impressed,” she added.
Trustee Ed Fessler wondered if there was a way that the artwork could be displayed as a motivator to other young artists.
Hanchett said
One outstanding athlete was Addie Pendergast, and Coach Taylor Kelting talked about her championships in outdoor track and field.

Superintendent Scott Stults also commented about Pendergast, saying she is very gifted athletically and has an excellent character as well. “It’s about who you are as a person,” he added.
Jesse Swanke. assistant SJHS principal and activities director, told the board about the upcoming DON’T QUIT! Fitness Center at the Sheridan Junior High.

In other business the board voted to raise lunch prices for the 2023-24 school year, as the current prices have not been keeping up with inflation, food service manager Leslie Haberkern told the board.

They also approved the drilling for five test wells for Sheridan High School as a way to increase the irrigation water at the school. The board voted to renew the contract with Sysco as the food service provider; Meadow Gold Dairy as the milk provider and approved the purchase of new SJHS and SHS desks.
The next meeting will be July 17 at 6 p.m.
