SCSD#3 Board Names Employees of the Year

SCSD#3 Board met on Wednesday, May 10 with a light agenda. They approved the district leave policy on final reading and approved an out-of-district student application for the 2023-24 school year.

On item discussed was the upcoming area-wide school board members picnic on June 15, which SCSD#3 will host this year. The board voted to move the picnic from The Park at Ucross to the Clearmont School. It will be held at 6 p.m.

Business manager Greg Rohrer presented the budget, and there was some discussion about the lunch prices, but no action was taken.

Activities director Jennifer Betz reported on teen safety day.

She added that she had received feedback from the students, and she and Superintendent Chase Christensen are brainstorming on plans for next year.

The board also approved on first reading policies concerning alcohol, tobacco and substance abuse, weapons at school and bullying.

The board also awarded the 2023-24 propane contract to Big Horn Cooperative Association.

They named Aubrey Holland as classified staff member of the year and Jonathan Broersma as teacher of the year.

The board approved the dual and concurrent enrollment MOU with NWCCD for students wishing to take college courses along with their high school studies.

Christensen reported on the WY-TOPP tests, saying that SCSD#3 students did exceptionally well on the tests, above the state average.

The board also approved the hiring of Justin Kidneigh as the Head High School basketball coach. Kidniegh retired from teaching social studies at SCSD#1 Big Horn, and also coached there as well for a number of years.

There will be a strategic planning meeting held on Thursday, May 11 at 5:30 –7:30 p.m. for community members to come and share their views on the five year direction for Clearmont School.

Graduation will be held on Sunday, May 21, at 2 p.m. at the Clearmont School.

Next meeting will be on June 14, at 7 p.m.
