Tongue River Pow Wow Receiving Attention From Other Native American Tribes

Those who are missing, regardless of tribal affiliation, have not been forgotten, and their memories and spirit were remembered in Dayton.
Thursday night (April 20th) was the 3rd annual Tongue River High School Pow Wow, to promote nation-wide awareness of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons, or MMIP’s.
While one might think the purpose for the pow wow would make it a sad and mourning experience, it’s more of a festive event, as tribal members and the general public danced for those who did not get to dance and fight for those who did not have a voice for themselves.
Isabella Yellowtail is the organizer of the event and is a senior at Tongue River High School.
She says her efforts to raise awareness of MMIP’s have been noticed not just by the Crow Tribe, but by other Native American tribes as well.
“They all love what I’m doing. They all support me in many ways, help where they can, donate where they can, send people where they can, dancers, veterans all that. They send their stories, they just make sure that we know that they are here for us. They got our back and everything.”
Yellowtail adds the Pow Wow will continue next year, but she will be stepping down as host, because she will graduate from TRHS next month.

I think she is doing a wonderful thing for our people since the white people forget we are here in our own country and they don’t care about us. Just every other illegal aliens race here.

I didn’t understand what or why or anything about natives and violence against us.i still don’t. though my brother was beat so badly in the clackamas county jail that when he got out had a stroke lived 5yrs than died. when I was 15 a white man tried to rape and kill me but he could not accomplish what he wanted statistics are that natives are more likely to experience violence than any other race why?my daughter has been in dhs custody they have tried to traumatized her and purposely lost her for 3months and than traffick her she ran and fought her way away to me her mom when will the violence and trauma and senseless murders stop for me for my loved ones. the last 4years my ex boyfriend was terrozing me bringing guns into my home etc would almost kill me but let me live saying he couldn’t because of my daughter.
