News ReleaseSheridan Fire-Rescue and the Sheridan Police Department responded to a structure fire at 425 West Burkitt Thursday afternoon. SFR Engine 2 (E-2) arrived on scene at 1:45 pm and found a single story home with smoke showing. The homeowner advised crews that there were two pets still inside the house. E-2’s crew deployed a preconnected handline to initiate fire suppression actions. Upon entering the residence, E-2’s crew was confronted with a moderate amount of black smoke and elevated temperatures. The fire was quickly brought under control at 1:55 and the crew transitioned to checking for extension of fire into adjacent areas of the home. The homeowner advised the fire crew that two dogs were still inside the house.
Fire crews conducted a search of the home confirming there were no other occupants inside, but found two pets. One pet was removed from the home and transported to a nearby veterinarian by the SPD Community Service Officer. The building was systematically ventilated and overhauled to remove all residual smoke, heat, and the potential for rekindle. The scene was turned over to SFR Origin and Cause Investigators and is currently under investigation. One person is currently displaced due to the extent of damage to the house. No civilians or emergency personnel were injured during this fire.
