State Senator Dave Kinskey (R-Sheridan, Johnson Counties), in his weekly talk with Sheridan Media from the legislative session, discussed the legislature’s failure to pass any substantial property tax reform legislation during this year’s session.

Kinskey was asked why he thought so many property tax reform bills were not approved by the

legislature.

He said its not easy to get things done in the American political system by design, but that property tax relief for everyone should have been an easy fix.

Kinskey said he is frustrated that not much got done on the issue.

Although there won’t be much relief across the board for Wyoming’s citizens this year, Kinskey said the plan is for the Revenue Committee to work over the interim and bring back a bill that can get as many lawmakers as possible behind it for the next session in 2024.

Let’s see . . . GOP controls all of legislature but “not easy getting things done.” Ok to write laws to impose your religious beliefs on pregnant women though. Ok to write laws to interfere with family and doctor’s medical decisions. Ok to try to write a law letting land owners beat up or shoot someone they suspect trespassing. Ok to interfere with women and doctor’s medication decisions. Ok to write laws dictating how someone can dress or compete in sports. Ok to make sure only good party members can vote in primarys even before they know who’s running. Ok to make sure people without means don’t get access to health coverage. Just “noT too easy getting things done”. Ha! You and friends care only about maintaining your privileged positions atop the chest thumping GOP base, not about the general well being of the people in the state.

Am I the only person who feels like this is double talk? Now we have to wait till past 2024? What about the relief that was promised? People are struggling to make payments on their escalating property taxes and now we have to wait longer? Time for some new representation when the next election comes around

We need lower property taxes. That’s a fact. But we had the opportunity to lower the sales tax from a state-high 6% down to 5% and not one legislator spoke up for lower taxes. A record high 42% of voters wanted lower taxes, but it was all grass roots. Not one voice of elected leadership. Lower property taxes only help property owners, but a lower 5% sales tax helps everyone. And boy do we all need a tax break! Maybe next time.
