Employee retention has been an issue for the City of Sheridan the past several years. Since 2017, the City has experienced an employee turnover rate of between 10 and 15 percent each year, and last year, 18 employees left the City for a better paying job. The Sheridan City Council this week approved a resolution that provides a six percent pay increase for all City employees. City Human Resources Director Heather Doke addressed the Council before they voted to approve the pay increase.

The pay increase will be effective March 5. Doke said the increase will cost $159,830 out of the general fund and $66,553 out of the enterprise funds for the remainder of the current fiscal year. The increase for a full year will be $799,150 out of the general fund and $299,360 out of the enterprise funds.
