Wyoming 211 provides residents with information, referrals and support regarding health and social services in partnership with communities.

The idea behind 211 is simple: to create an easy to remember number that can provide help and information to those in crisis outside of the emergency calls taken by 911.

Director of Development & Marketing for Wyoming 211, Olivia Schon, told listeners of Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program the organization’s mission.

In Wyoming, there are four people who answer the calls for help and information. The types of crisis handled by these four people can vary from finding an organization to feed hungry children to people on the edge of committing self-harm.

Those answering these calls of crisis have undergone a rigorous training period lasting eight weeks. Only after the training period are they allowed to answer calls and provide the individual with help.

But calling is not the only way residents can seek the help of the professionals at 211.
