Gary Reynolds, who’s chairman of the Sheridan County School District 1 board of trustees, has resigned.

Reynolds announced his resignation at a board meeting this week, citing a desire to be closer to children and grandchildren.

Pete Kilbride, who’s superintendent of the school district, said the district started advertising Wednesday for people interested in applying for the trustee position.

Kilbride said the appointment will last until November when a successor to Reynolds will be elected.

Reynolds and his wife have lived in Dayton since 2010, and Reynolds is in his second term as a member of the District 1 school board. He is a veteran of nearly 40 years in education, having served as a high school and middle school science teacher and high school principal and as a school superintendent in Kansas and Nebraska.

Kilbride said Reynolds and his wife are planning to move to Colorado where their children and grandchildren live.
