Johnson County Ratifies Hazelton Parking Area Contract

Johnson County’s Commissioners, at their meeting this week, ratified an agreement between themselves and the US Forest Service, Bighorn National Forest to operate a seasonal winter parking area on Hazelton Road.

Commission Chairman Bill Novotny explained what the agreement is for.

Novotny further explained that the permit for the parking area was needed because of vehicles parked along Highway 16 West of Buffalo at Hazelton Road, which the Wyoming Department of Transportation felt was a safety hazard for motorists.

The county and the Forest Service then reached an agreement to allow for the parking area.

The permit for the parking area does not cost the county anything other than County Road & Bridge designating the parking area, which Novotny said they do with boulders and signage on site.
