SPD: stay safe during holiday parties

The holidays bring a sense of good cheer, downtown shopping, time with family and parties.
The Sheridan Police Department encourages all residents to have fun and celebrate this time of year. But the SPD is reminding residents to play it safe by ensuring they have a safe ride home and be mindful of our own limits when it comes to consuming alcohol.
During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, SPD Captain Tom Ringley advised the public to drink responsibility and ensure they have a safe ride home.
Rignely recommends preplanning the locations the party may be visiting during the course of the night and asking the establishment if they take part in the Free Ride Home program. If the establishment does not, designate a safe driver or coordinate with friends or family to provide a ride home.
The SPD reminds the public that walking home is an option. But they recommend ensuring that proper attire is worn during this time of year as temperatures can drop rapidly. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, while hypothermia is most likely to happen at very cold temperatures, it can occur even at cool temperatures (above 40°F) if a person becomes chilled from rain, sweat, or submersion in cold water.
