An unidentified man is dead after opening fire on Wyoming Highway Patrol Troopers twice in Crook County.
According to a media release, sometime after 10pm on Friday (July 29th), a trooper spotted the man walking along I-90, about 1 mile southwest of Sundance.
When the trooper learned the man had an active warrant for his arrest, the trooper requested assistance from the Crook County Sheriff’s Department.
When law enforcement officials attempted to arrest the man, a struggle ensued and the suspect was able to retrieve a handgun and fired several shots at law enforcement before fleeing.
Officials lost him in the darkness, but found him sometime after 11am the next day (July 30th), about 1 mile away.
The male suspect fired at law enforcement again, and officers returned fire striking the male.
He was taken into custody and immediately received medical attention but was pronounced dead a short time later.
No law enforcement officers were injured during the event, and the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the situation.
