SCSD#1 met on Tuesday, June 21, in Ranchester. Superintendent Pete Kilbride said that enrollment has stayed really strong in 2021-22, and it was a really good school year.
The board briefly discussed new school buses, an approval to withdraw from Campbell County BOCHES and the formation of a new BOCHES with Sheridan College. Jeremy Smith, business manager, was approved as the WSBAIT (Wyoming School Boards Association Insurance Trust) representative.
Sara McGinnis Curriculum Director, who is retiring after 29 years with the school district, spoke to the board about how she had appreciated the board of trustees over the years, saying, “The SCSD#1 board has always embraced innovation and trusted in the leadership of its principals and teachers.” She said that the district had undertaken a complete curriculum overhaul, and a standards-based grading system.
Kilbride commented that McGinnis had been invaluable to the district, and he was proud of her leading on the curriculum in SCSD#1.
Representative Cyrus Western, representing District 51, spoke to the board about the recent increase in property taxes, and that he is coming to the school board for ideas on a way to approach congress about perhaps a different appraisal process for accessing property taxes.
The board also discussed the upcoming School Board BBQ for the school board members in Sheridan and Johnson County to be held on Wednesday, June 23, and the painting and repairs being done on the Little Blue School house.
