A 15-year-old charged with first degree murder in Sheridan County has been transferred to a juvenile detention facility. 9th Judicial District Court Judge Melissa Owens, who is presiding over the case in 4th Judicial District Court, granted the defendant’s motion for a transfer to juvenile detention. The ruling from Judge Owens comes a day after a motion hearing in District Court on Tuesday for Christian Torres, who is accused of killing his adoptive father 47-year-old Edgar “Eddie” Jones at a home in Dayton on July 27, 2021. Since his extradition from Montana in October, 2021, Torres has been incarcerated at the Sheridan County Detention Center awaiting trial.

During the motion hearing, Defense Attorney Jonathan Foreman argued that Torres is being exposed to things in jail that a 15-year-old shouldn’t be exposed to, including physical and sexual harrassment from other inmates. If convicted, Torres faces up to life in prison, as first degree murder is punishable by life imprisonment if the individual convicted of the crime was under the age of 18 at the time of the offense.
