City Council Given Update on Outdoor Pool

The Buffalo City Council was given an update on the city’s outdoor pool, a review of last year, and a preview of things coming up this summer.
Pool Board member Travis Lawrence, in the year-end summary, said last summer the board implemented a new admissions fee for the pool, but were able to offer over $6,000 in free passes for admissions through donations from local businesses.
Revenue from admissions was just over $37,000 of which 50% will be used for reinvestment in the pool with the other 50% going to City of Buffalo Charitable Foundation.
Lawrence discussed the funds set aside for the charitable foundation and what it would eventually be used for.
Additions to the pool include starting blocks for swim meets, purchased through a generous donor; a new slide that will be installed this year; and improvements to concessions.
The city is also looking to add free WiFi in the pool area as well.
The Kate Holt Memorial Swim Meet has been scheduled for July 1 and 2; and the state swim meet, if awarded to Buffalo, would be July 15 through 17.
The outdoor pool is scheduled to open for the season on Friday, June 10.
