Night time travelers on I-25 in the Kaycee area will have to go someplace else if they want to stop at the rest area.
According to WYDOT, the rest area, located off of I-25 at exit 254, will be closed each night at 9 o’clock until further notice.
A recent grass fire damaged the electrical infrastructure in the area, and there’s no power for the lights after 9pm.
The rest area building is a passive solar facility, which uses the sun’s energy to heat and cool itself, without the use of mechanical or electrical devices.
The building’s windows, walls, and floors are designed to collect, store, reflect, and distribute solar energy as heat in the winter and reject it in the summer.
