Russ Huson

Funeral services for Dr. Russ Huson 85-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away early Tuesday morning at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo will be held Friday, November 4th at 10:00 a.m. at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo with Pastor Laura Blackstone officiating.  A private family interment will take place at a later date. Donations in Dr. Huson’s memory may be made to the Amie Holt Care Center at 497 West Lott in Buffalo.  Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com. Frederick Russell Huson was born on November 22, 1936, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Harry and Mae Huson.  He went to elementary school in Clearmont, Wyoming, and later attended high school in Buffalo and graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1955. He was married on September 10, 1955, in Billings, Montana to Joyce Smith and they lived in Casper where Russ attended Casper College for two years.  He then transferred to San Diego State College where he received a bachelor’s degree. He was later accepted into a graduate program at U.C. Berkley where he received a Ph.D. in Physics in 1964.  After graduation, they lived in Geneva, Switzerland for six months and later in Paris for two years doing a Post Doc at Ecole Polytechnique.  They then moved to Long Island, New York where he worked at the Brookhaven National Lab.  In 1970 they moved to Batavia, Illinois and Russ worked at the Fermilab National Accelerator Laboratory. In 1983 the moved to College Station Texas where He was a professor at Texas A&M.  Russ set up the Texas Accelerator Center in The Woodlands, Texas where he was until 1995 when he retired.  After retirement, Russ and Joyce lived for eleven years on a 42-foot boat out of Seabrook, Texas, and cruised to the Bahamas, up the East Coast and into Canadian water, and down the Mississippi River.  They sold their boat in 2005 and moved back to their home in The Woodlands, Texas.  In 2017 they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming where they lived until his death.

Russ was wholly dedicated to his work and was a highly published author and Fellow of the American Physical Society. He enjoyed fishing, and hiking was an avid Texas A&M fan, and loved his cats. He is survived by his wife Joyce Huson of Buffalo and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Ed, and Harry Huson.

    I am so sad to hear of Russ’s passing. I am remembering all the wonderful times we had together up in Berkeley. Please keep in touch.

    Dear Joyce,
    I just found out about Russ’s passing.I am so sorry about this and please accept my condolences . I’ll rememberfor ever the great time we had the four of us in the Woodlands. On aother sad note, Myrto passed away on July 2019 that was a sudden and
    big blow on me.Take care !!!!

    I enjoyed working with Rus at Fermi national excelerator lab for 3 years.I enjoyed the cook out at his home in Batavia, Il.

    I was a 16-year-old student at McCullough High School in 1985, when Russ and TAC took a chance on me as a junior drafter. I’ll always be grateful for that opportunity, and it has paid dividends.

    I am sorry to learn this news, and you have my heartfelt condolences.
