Tongue River took care of business last week at home vs. Newcastle, by a score of 30-to-7.

Eagle Coach Steve Hanson says the team played well and they’re not letting the fact that they’re still undefeated get to their egos.

“Our defense played lights out causing 6 turnovers total and holding them to 100 yards of total offense, which is really big. We’ve still got things to do, but the team responded very well to what Newcastle brought. We’re making progress every week. Obviously we’re always finding things that we need to improve on and the boys are responding very well to keeping a mindset of improvement even through wins.”

TR hosts Torrington in a 2 o’clock game this afternoon.

Hanson says so far, this season has been a down year for the Trail Blazers compared to the past 2 seasons, but that’s no excuse for TR to look past them.

“They’ve got big talented kids. We can’t overlook them by any means, but we just got to go out and be our best selves and I think we’ll be fine. Big Horn showed some things that we can try and emulate. Burns got beaten in overtime in a game against them, but Burns did somethings in that game that would show some kind of weaknesses in their stuff. I think as long as we’re fundamentally sound, we win the turnover battle, we win the trenches and we execute down the field, eliminate as many penalties as possible, we’ll be fine.”

Last week Torrington was at Big Horn and the Rams buried them by a score of 42-to-7.

BH Coach Kirk McLaughlin says as the season has been progressing, that loss to Lovell 4 weeks ago isn’t all that bad anymore and the seniors have demonstrated that they’ve learned a lot since then.

“Senior boys leadership this year has been outstanding to say the least. They’ve really done a great job of doing what we need to do to get better on a weekly basis. What we thought would work for our team offensively is we kind of adapted to fit our personnel better. We really haven’t changed plays much, just the way we go about calling them and then defensively our boys have been really good about being more aggressive throughout the season. Every week, we seem to be getting better defensively with our tackling and our execution of the defense.”

The Rams are home again this week as they entertain Wheatland.

Coach McLaughlin says the Bulldogs may have a 2-and-2 record, but they’re better than their record indicates.

Kirk McLaughlin

“They’re a real solid team. They shouldn’t have lost their game to Newcastle, that was a close one, they went into double overtime. They made a lot of mistakes late that kind of cost them that game, but they really played well. They’re doing some good things, they’ve got some dynamic football players, #25 their running back/receiver makes some good plays for them and then they’re tough up front. They’ve got a good line and running the ball on them won’t be easy.”

Kickoff is scheduled for 6pm.

Rain could impact both games.
