A multi-sport athlete from Tongue River, will get to play both of the sports that he enjoys at the collegiate level.
Caleb Kilbride has signed his National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play football and basketball at Dakota Wesleyan University, located in Mitchell, South Dakota.
This past football season as a wide receiver, he caught 29 passes for 496 yards and scored 5 touchdowns.
In the recent basketball season that just ended, Kilbride averaged 17 points per game, while shooting 45% from the field.
He says the only other school he had been considering was Chadron State, which was only interested in him for football only.
When Dakota Wesleyan expressed interest in both football and basketball, that school jumped to the front of the line.
“They’re actually the ones that brought up, me, the possibility of doing both and Dakota Wesleyan is a smaller school and so they have quite a few kids actually that do multiple sports, whether it’s baseball and football or track and football and stuff like that and so, they understand that process and they’re kind of the ones that brought this path in my eyes.”
Kilbride adds that both the football and basketball coaches at Dakota Wesleyan are aware that one sport will overlap the other one for about 1 month.
As for a major, he says he is considering wildlife management.
