Colson Coon Of Sheridan HS Named Finalist For 2023 Milward Simpson Award

One Sheridan High School athlete from the recently graduated class of 2023, have been named as one of the most outstanding and accomplished Wyoming High School athletes, during their high school tenure.

Colson Coon has been named a finalist for the boys version of the 2023 Milward-Simpson award.

The award is named after Simpson who served as team captain for the football, basketball and baseball teams at the University of Wyoming from 1917 to 1921.

Coon is the 17th male athlete from Sheridan HS to be named a finalist for the award.

Four former Broncs have won the annual award, the last being Parker Christensen in 2019.

The 47th annual Milward Simpson winners will be announced on Saturday, June 17th.

Coon earned all-state in football, soccer, and wrestling at Sheridan HS.

He helped the Broncs win 4A state championships in football in 2021 and 2022 and is Wyoming’s first two-time Gatorade Wyoming Football Player of the Year award winner.

Coon currently holds the Wyoming High School 11-man football single game rushing record with 509 yards.

He won the 182-pound title in Class 4A at the 2023 state wrestling championships and helped Sheridan capture the team crown, which was their second in school history and first in 33 years.

Coon was part of three Broncs teams that qualified for the state soccer tournament in the last three years.

Sheridan was runner-up in 2022 and took third place in 2023.

He has signed to play football at Montana State University.
