Fay Waugh

Funeral services for Fay Waugh, 94 year old lifetime Buffalo resident who passed away quietly Tuesday afternoon surrounded by family at the Johnson County Health Care Center in Buffalo will be held Saturday, December 4^th at 10:00 a.m. at the Summit Wesleyan Church in Buffalo, Wyoming with Pastor William Dunlap officiating. Visitation will be held at the Harness Funeral Home Chapel in Buffalo on the Friday before from 1:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Interment will be in Willow Grove Cemetery with graveside rites to follow the funeral. Fay Waugh was born on April 10, 1927, to Frank and Margaret Lawrence on the family ranch on French Creek along with her twin sister May. She rode horseback to the country school on French Creek. In 1939 the family moved into Buffalo where she attended schools. She graduated from Johnson County High School with the class of 1945. After high school Fay and May attended St Patrick School of Nursing in Missoula, Montana where they graduated as Army Cadet Nurses in 1948. She was married on May 16, 1948, the night of her nursing school graduation, to Carl Waugh at the Methodist Church in Missoula. They then made their home in Buffalo where they owned and operated the Rainbow Café. The café sold in 1949 and they ranched for a few years. Carl was the Commandant at the Soldiers and Sailors Home of Wyoming in Buffalo from 1955 to 1959 where Fay worked as a nurse. Carl and Fay owned several businesses in Buffalo and Fay worked as a Registered Nurse off and on for over 60 years, in the doctor’s clinic as well as Johnson County Hospital and the Amie Holt Nursing Home. In May of 1964 they bought the Idlewild Café which they operated for seventeen years. Carl passed away in January of 2010 and Fay continued living in Buffalo until her death.

She was a member of the Buffalo Housing Commission for eleven years; she was on the Johnson County Cemetery District Board for seven years; she was a volunteer for the Suzie Bowling Lawrence Hospice for fourteen years; she was a member of Summit Wesleyan Church, the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.  But her passion was being a grandmother and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one son Kent Waugh and his wife Cathie of Buffalo; two daughters Penny Laird and her husband Steve of Buffalo and Carla Bishop and her husband Gary also of Buffalo; one daughter-in-law Cathy Waugh; ten grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Tom Waugh, two sisters, and three brother.
