Former Sheridan resident, Michael “Scott” McVay passed away at is home in Reno, NV on Wednesday, August 18, 2021. He was 53 years old at his passing.
Scott, as he was known by, was born January 15, 1968 in Casper Wyoming to Paul “Sandy” and Cheryl McVay. The family made their home in Sheridan WY for his younger years. He and his father later moved out west, followed by his mother and brothers Shawn, Spencer, Stuart, and Stennis “Goose”, making their home in Sparks, NV. He fell in love with the muffler/exhaust trade starting with Mr. Z’s Muffler Service which was the stepping stone to starting his own business with Marlene in 1994, McVay’s Muffler Service. They later added Washoe Metal Fabricating to their business successes in 2005. Both businesses thrive today.
Scott never knew a stranger, something that was instilled in him by his Wyoming roots. He lived that way every day of his life both personally and professionally.
Scott’s passion was children and making them happy. He held officer positions in the Sierra Nevada Junior Rodeo, Gymkhana Club, and the Washoe County High School Rodeo Association. His support and love of children led him to selflessly donate a kidney to Cody Castodio who he connected with as a son, as well as Cody’s brother Sean. His acts of kindness were daily and far too many to list individually.
Scott was a family man, nothing filled his soul more than the pride he had for his two sons, Justin and Morgan. The mere mention of their names put a smile on his face with pride followed by long-winded stories of what they were doing and how much he loved them. When he was blessed with grandchildren, the stories got longer, and the smile got bigger!
Scott is survived by his girlfriend Michelle Taliaferro, her children, and grandchildren. Marlene McVay the mother of his two sons and business partner, Justin McVay his wife Brittney and their daughters BrynnLee and Ivy, and his other son Morgan McVay, his father “Sandy”, and brothers Shawn, Spencer, and Stuart.
Scott joined his mother Cheryl and brother Stennis “Goose” in heaven with his passing. He also leaves behind a very long list of friends, family, and business associates. Again, he knew no stranger.
Cremation is under the direction of Mountain View Mortuary in Reno.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Saturday, August 28, 2021, at 2:00PM at 397 Calle Limpio in Sparks NV. Everyone is welcome to attend and bring your stories and memories for all to enjoy. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made in Scott’s name to the Reno Toy Run.
