Harold Matthews

A celebration of the life of Harold “PeeWee”  Matthews 70-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away Friday at his home in Buffalo, due to complications of a six long year valiant battle with cancer while his loving family was by his side, will be held via Zoom meeting by his family on August 8^th at 4:00 p.m. MST with Brother Kurt Babcock as the officiant.  To attend friends and family are asked to send their email address to carolmatthews5050@gmail.com to receive an invitation and zoom address. Harold James Matthews (PeeWee) was born on December 5, 1949, in Winner, South Dakota to Walter and Esther Matthews. He grew up in Winner, South Dakota, and was married on June 24, 1967, in Winner to Carol Ahlers and they made their home in Chicago and later Colorado.  They lived in various parts of the Western United States while PeeWee was employed as a construction inspector on Indian Reservations and was also a private contractor and worked in many states. In 2008 they moved to Buffalo, where he owned and operated HCM Construction. He continued living in Buffalo until his death.

PeeWee dedicated his life to his God Jehovah on May 19, 1974.  As one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, he firmly believed in the resurrection of living here on this very Earth alongside his friends and family when Jehovah God restores it to a paradise condition in the future “Psalm 37”.  PeeWee loved his entire family and the numerous friends he made from the congregations he attended. He had a deep love for horses teaching his children, grandchildren and many others how to ride a horse. He also loved the outdoors, and hunting, fishing, and camping. He is survived by his wife Carol of Buffalo; two daughters Leslie Matthews of Buffalo and Lorie Hicks of Palmer Lake, Colorado; four brothers, William Matthews and his wife Patti of Van Tassel, Wy, Donald Matthews and his wife Lydia of Rapid City, South Dakota, Ronald Matthews and his wife Laura of Lusk, Wyoming and Thomas Matthews and his wife Val of Gillette, Wyoming; two sisters Zita Merklein and her husband Dwight of Thermopolis, Wyoming and Bonnie Wolf and her husband Martin of Black Hawk, South Dakota; five grandchildren, Kevin Hicks,  Jalisa Matthews and her husband Josh, Keturah Wilbourn and her husband Andy, Devin Matthews and Jase Matthews; and four great-grandchildren, Andre, Silas, Michael, and Matthew.  He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter Keshia Hicks-Mueller, one brother-in-law Denny Ahlers and one sister-in-law, Diane Pettyjohn.
