Frances Elizabeth Huggins, 100, of Story, Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 13, at Westview Health Care Center.  She was born April 5, 1920, in Sheridan, Wyoming, the younger daughter of the late Nels and Adele Nelsen. She graduated from Sheridan High School in 1938 and married Kenneth B. Huggins later that same year. They had two children: Vaunda, born in 1939, and Michelle, born in 1947. After Kenneth passed away in 1973, Frances worked as a nursing assistant for many years at the Soldiers and Sailors Home (now the Veterans’ Home) in Buffalo, Wyoming. She was a nearly life-long member of the Story Woman’s Club and was named Co-Grand Marshall of the Story Days Parade in 2016 along with her sister-in-law and best friend, Jean Lunbeck. Many in the Story community will remember France’s quiet strength and independence, her devotion to her family and friends, and her engaging laugh and a warm smile. She will be so very missed.

Frances was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth; her sister, Wilhelmina Minyard; her daughter, Vaunda; and her grandsons, Jim and Mike Schlegel. She is survived by her daughter, Michelle Huggins; grandchildren Punky Bradley, Sharon Selberg, Dawn Sanford, Kenneth Huggins, and Marissa Streby; nine great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Cremation has taken place, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family wishes, in particular, to thank Westview Health Care Center staff and Dr. Laura Ferries for the kind and generous care and support of Frances and her family in this difficult time.

I will always remember Frances as I worked with her for many years at the Veterans’ Home of Wyoming. She was a great lady and a wonderful friend. We have lots of cherished memories from working at the Veterans’ Home and she will always be in our hearts. Sheila Camino
