Patsy Whiffen

Graveside funeral services for Patsy Whiffen, an 88-year-old Buffalo resident who passed away Wednesday morning at the Johnson County Health Care Center, will be held Saturday, August 31st, at 10:00 a.m. in Willow Grove Cemetery with Don Peppersack officiating. Donations in Patsy’s memory may be made to the St. Francis Animal Shelter at 109 Flatiron Drive in Buffalo, Wyoming 82834. Online condolences may be made at www.harnessfuneralhome.com.

Patsy Whiffen was born on September 20, 1935, in Duncan, Oklahoma to Roy and Jetta Stevens.  She moved to Roswell, New Mexico as a child where she grew up and went to school.  She graduated from Roswell High School with the class of 1953.  After high school she took a job with Mountain Bell as a telephone operator.  She was married on April 23, 1966, in Albuquerque, New Mexico to Byron Whiffen, and they made their home in Albuquerque for several years.  Byron worked for Mountain Bell, and they lived in New Mexico, Wyoming, Utah and Arizona where Patsy was a homemaker.  In 1988, they retired and moved to Goliad, Texas.  In 1992 they moved to Rio Rancho, New Mexico where they took care of Byron’s mother.  In 2021 they moved to Buffalo, Wyoming to be close to family.  They continued living in Buffalo until her death.

She was an accomplished weaver and was a member of the Goliad Weaving Guild.  She also enjoyed Crocheting, horseback riding, fishing and camping in the mountains.  Her passion was her family, and she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She is survived by her husband Byron Whiffen of Buffalo; one step-daughter, Cindy Wollen and her husband Lee of Buffalo; one sister Joy Stevens Hiscott of Albuquerque; two sisters-in-law Lila stevens and Mary Louise Shelby; four grandchildren, Tina, Jacob, Chrystal and Samantha; two great-grandchildren McKenzie and Aspen; five nephews, Larry and Rick Wiley and David and Devon Shelby and Jeffrey Stevens; three nieces Kellie Wiley, Denise Gilmore and Dana Burns; and twenty-nine great nieces and nephews.
