Richard “Dick” W.  Green, 79, passed away at the Sheridan, WY VA Mountain View Living Center on Tuesday, May 28, 2024. He spent his last precious days surrounded by his loving family and friends.

Dick was born to Mary and Dale Green on March 5, 1945, at the Reynolds Home in Sheridan, WY. He attended Linden Grade School, Central Jr. High, and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1963. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in March of 1964 and served in Vietnam as a radio operator. He was honorably discharged in 1967 and came back home to Sheridan. He met his future wife, Bessie, in April 1968. They were engaged in June of that year and were married in September 1968. They were together for 56 years.

Dick was a carpenter for Fletcher Construction before going to work at Decker Coal. He started in the carpenter shop there but later joined the blasting crew. He worked there for 32 years. After retirement from Decker, he was a driver for the Senior citizen MiniBus (now Goose Creek Transit) and took great care of Bessie’s mom, Agnes, who lived with them for the last 10 years of her life. He loved playing cribbage, riding his Razor, and going to Wyoming Cowboy and Denver Bronco football games. He also enjoyed working with his friends at the Greek Festival in Cheyenne for many years. He had many memorable fishing, hunting, and snowmobile trips. When his children were young, the family spent many weekends camping in the Big Horn Mountains. Dick was always willing to help his friends and family whenever they needed something built or a board cut. He enjoyed going to all his kids’ and grandkids’ school activities.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his youngest brother, Mike. He is survived by his wife Bessie of Sheridan, WY, daughter Katie (John) Miller of Sheridan, WY, son Zach (Kancie) Green of Sheridan, WY, grandchildren Brendan Schaefer of Salt Lake City, UT, Kyler Green of Gillette, WY, Henri Schaefer of Sheridan, WY, Zane Miller of Houston, TX, and Jacey Miller of Casper, WY. He is also survived by his 2 younger brothers, Jim (Thea) Green of Palacios, TX, and Sam (Sherry) Green of Sheridan, WY, and many nieces and nephews.

Dick was proud to be a Marine who loved his country and family. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends.

The family wishes to thank all the staff at the Sheridan VA Medical Center for taking such good care of Dick.

Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 1:00p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024, at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery with Deacon Joe Kristufek officiating.

Memorials in his name may be made to the Sheridan Dog and Cat Shelter, 84 East Ridge Rd, Sheridan, WY 82801. Online condolences may be made to www.sheridanfuneral.com. Arrangements are under the care of Sheridan Funeral Home.
