Debates continue in the legislature concerning the redistricting of the Cowboy State

House Bill 0100 has been at the center of discussion as the 66th Wyoming Legislature works to redistrict the state.
Concerns regarding the “62-31” redistricting map would affect both Sheridan and Johnson Counties by putting Arvada and Clearmont in a Campbell County District can be put to ease with an amendment by House District 40 Rep. Barry Crago, R – Buffalo, and backed by House District 51, represented by Rep. Cyrus Western, R – Big Horn and Representative Mark Kinner, R – Sheridan passing first reading yesterday.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Sheridan County Commissioner Nick Siddle, who along with other Sheridan and Johnson County Commissioners sent a letter voicing their concerns of the “62-31” plan, gave a rundown of how the amendment shifted district lines.
The amendment to HB 0100 placed the communities of Story, Arvada and Clearmont within House District 40 as well as retaining the southern section of Johnson County, including the town of Kaycee.
The debate and the bill are far from a finished product. If one line moves within a district, it shifts the entire puzzle. House Bill 0100 passed second reading on Feb.17, and will receive third reading tomorrow. To view the changes made through Crago’s amendment, click here.
