In December of 2021, due to an increase in population, the city was awarded an additional liquor license.

The Sheridan City Council released the information and received 11 applications for the license that met the criteria required. The council formed a committee to figure out the most fair way to issue that license to a business.

City Councilman Shawn Day is on that committee along with Councilmen Jacob Martin and Steve Brantz.

During an appearance on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse program, Day explained why the committee decided to take the amount of time and the route they have to select the recipient of that license.

A hybrid model of the two ideas was chosen; further vet the applications and then leave it to chance in a drawing, mitigating possible bias in the selection process.

The committee further explored applications that would bring Sheridan residents and visitors more options, such as restaurants over drive-up liquor store proposals. The committee asked for business plans and questioned applicants on how the license would be utilized.

The final applications will be presented to the council at their next business meeting this coming Monday, Feb. 14, barring any disagreements, the drawing will take place the following Monday, Feb. 21.
