Sheridan County added 88 lab confirmed cases of COVID-19 over the weekend, bringing the total count to 5,774 lab confirmed cases since the beginning of the pandemic.

Also over the weekend, another 35 probable cases have been reported. That total now stands at 1,799.

Currently there are 302 active cases in the Sheridan County Community and 63 deaths of Sheridan County residents attributed to COVID-19.

There are currently seven patients in the hospital fighting the virus.

After a review of it’s safety and effectiveness, the Food and Drug Administration has given full approval to Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, Spikevax.

Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine was available under Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) in the U.S. from Dec. 18, 2020. Under an EUA, the FDA has the authority to allow medical products to be used in an emergency to diagnose, treat, or prevent serious or life-threatening diseases or conditions during a declared public health emergency when there are no adequate, approved, and available alternatives.

According to the FDA, the approval of Spikevax is based on the FDA’s evaluation and analysis of follow-up safety and effectiveness data from the ongoing randomized, placebo-controlled, blinded clinical trial that supported the December 2020 EUA for the Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine and information from post EUA experience to further inform safety and effectiveness.
