Maintaining Cemetery Deeds Records

The Sheridan Municipal Cemetery was a topic of discussion at this week’s study session of the Sheridan City Council. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

The City of Sheridan currently executes cemetery deeds to plot purchasers at the Sheridan Municipal Cemetery. Over time, the means of recording the deeds and transferring the deeds has changed a number of times, which has led to some incomplete and conflicting records. City Attorney Brendon Kerns said that the City is in the process of fixing these issues.

Kerns said that the issue is one that many communities experience.

Kerns talked about the direction that the Council gave him at a recent study session.

Kerns said that other steps in correcting the Cemetery issues are to amend the City’s Cemetery ordinances and the adoption of a Cemetery Policy and Procedures.
