This Wednesday evening, the second annual Buffalo High School Startup Challenge, will be happening to showcase a number of student entrepreneurs vying for funding for their startup businesses.

The challenge is sponsored through and modeled after a similar one by Impact 307.

Kami Kennedy, Business Teacher at BHS, explains more about the challenge and how it came to be at BHS.

The five student finalists are Jeremiah Hawley with his business J-tech 307 which would provide phone help technical services; Caydence Engling and Full of Purpose Planner, an organizational tool; Olivia Maertens and Simply Plants, with her passion for house plants; Isabel Camino and Desert Drifter, Western clothing designs; and Jamie Peters and Beeswax Candles, made from the by-products from her family’s bee business.

Awards will be given to one or any number of ideas, based on various criteria and the amount of funding available.

The BHS Startup Challenge is the only contest attached to a high school, and Kennedy explains why BHS was chosen for their own contest.

Kennedy said the BHS Startup Challenge would not be possible without donations from local businesses who this year include First Northern Bank, ReRide, Buffalo Gardens, and the University of Wyoming.

The challenge will be Wednesday evening beginning at 5:30 in the BHS Auditorium.

The public is welcome to attend.
