Qualifying Sheridan residents can get help with snow removal
The City of Sheridan and the HUB on Smith have joined forces to create the Snow Patrol.
According to Sheridan Street Maintenance Administrative Assistant Sheila Hamilton, Snow Patrol was developed to assist senior and disabled residents remove snow from their walkways and sidewalks.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public pulse program, Hamilton told listeners how the program came about.
Hamilton knew of a volunteer program that was already taking place at the HUB on Smith. She contacted the HUB to discuss the potential of combining resources and efforts and to ask about any recipients that may need such a service.
Volunteer and Education Coordinator for the HUB on Smith Jamie Brester liked the idea and with a little help from volunteers from the Sheridan County YMCA, the program was able to keep the sidewalks clear for some Sheridan residents, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the HUB was unable to devote a full effort to the program. That’s not the case this year.
This year, Brester and her team are organizing and coordinating volunteer efforts for the Snow Patrol program. Currently the HUB on Smith is looking for businesses that may like to donate gift cards, baskets, or other items to help award volunteers in this program.
According to Brester, because this is such a physical position The HUB is hoping a monthly drawing for volunteers would be enticing and fun. Each time volunteers shovel a driveway or sidewalk they will be given a voucher card and entered into the drawing. If volunteers shovel one driveway they get entered into the drawing once; if volunteers shovel ten driveways or sidewalks, they will be entered ten times.
Businesses interested in sponsoring items for the drawing can contact Jamie Brester at 307-675-4961.
This Snow Patrol program is designed for “City snow events” or snow storms that leave four inches or more of snow on walkways and driveways.
If you or someone you know may be interested in taking advantage of the Snow Patrol program, you can sign up at the City of Sheridan website, here.
