Sheriff Follows State Statute on Tobacco Sales

On Friday, Sheridan County Sheriff Allen Thompson said that his office will continue to enforce state statute as it relates to the sale of tobacco products in spite of the new law that was signed last month by President Donald Trump. Sheriff Thompson said the new legislation states that the federal minimum age to purchase tobacco products has gone from 18 to 21.
Wyoming State Statute 14-3-301 through 308 states that 18 is the threshold for tobacco enforcement action and Sheriff Thompson said that is what they will abide by.
Thompson said that retailers and those that provide tobacco to anyone age 18-20 should consider the new federal law and the possibility that a federal law enforcement entity may decide to enforce the law within Sheridan County.
