Sheridan County School District Two is seeking public input on property they recently acquired. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

School District Two Seeks Public Input on the Former Holly Seed Property

In January of this year, School District Two closed on the purchase of the Holly Seed property, located on 5th Street just south of Sheridan High School. The purchase was made using a $1.4 million donation from Scotty and Janet Scott. The District Two School Board’s Capital Construction Committee has set a goal to develop a collaborative vision for using the land to meet multiple school district and community needs. The school district is seeking public input via a survey that is currently available on District Two’s website. The survey can be accessed here.

Superintendent Scott Stults said “it is essential to note that the district does not have any funding to dedicate for the construction or maintenance of a project, and that any facility constructed on the property would need to generate enough revenue to pay for its upkeep.”  Results from the online survey will be evaluated by the Capital Construction Committee over the coming months as part of their vision development process. The survey will remain open through Friday, October 22.

Sheridan needs to keep up with the times. I know it would be pricey but to continue honoring out community and our kids we need our own indoor facility. I am referring to Gillette Wyomings Recreational Complex. I know there are a few indoor facilities in Wyoming. I haven’t seen them at all. I have been to Gillette’s Recreational Complex several times. Times are hard I know this but we should be able to have drives of different kinds and raise money towards a facility similar to Gillette’s. We don’t need to design ours after there’s. We can do whatever we like, let’s just be sure we do it right and have what we want. Our kids for example need there own indoor track. They also need a better swimming pool and what ever that need is. I’m not 100% sure if we need additional gyms or gym. The ideas we come up with also need seating for parents and fans. These venues bring people to Sheridan. They spend money, that’s what our town needs to keep up with the times. “Come on” our indoor track kids practice in the hallways of our high school. Sheridan has a lot of young people, people with children we need to continue looking to the future for them. We have a county Rec Dept. they can be in charge of it. I would believe the people of the community would also benefit because we have a lot of people that walk and run daily. We could have our own tournaments which would bring people to Sheridan and surrounding States would come I believe also. There is so much a facility like this would benefit our kids and the people of Sheridan. Let’s be clear about one thing. I’m not I repeat not trying to cut the YMCA out of the equation in any way. They have a beautiful facility and I in joy going there swimming myself. They charge, we could charge something to at least help with the upkeep. I know nothing about how Whitney Benefits works other that it’s my understanding it was set up for the children of Sheridan County. They should consider helping build something like this. Again nothing to do with The best College in Wyoming but a facility like ours needs there help and also Whitney Benifits. This facility should try to accommodate all schools in Sheridan County. There are many people of Sheridan County that I know would be asked yet again for help. We have all chosen to make Sheridan our home for ourselves and for our children. There are those that can’t help and I understand that but our plan has to include everybody. School District 2 needs to have some control because they need to be able to schedule activities related to Sheridan Sports. If you find the price is more than what we can raise then our children and residents will be loosing out. What would the cost be to install a inflatable dome over our beautiful stadium? That would cover a lot of what we need.
