A 20-year-old Sheridan man was sentenced to prison Thursday at a hearing in Fourth Judicial District Court. Nathan Van Buskirk was arrested on April 5 when he was pulled over by law enforcement for a traffic stop. A search of Van Buskirk’s vehicle yielded 23 Oxycodone pills without a prescription and 218 grams of methamphetamine. Van Buskirk, pursuant to a plea agreement reached with the State, pleaded “guilty” to the charges at a change of plea hearing in August.

District Court Judge John Fenn at sentencing Thursday, accepted the terms of the plea agreement and sentenced Van Buskirk to a period of 3 to 5 years in prison for the charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance With Intent to Deliver- Methamphetamine, and 3 to 5 years in prison for the charge Possession of a Controlled Substance- Oxycodone. The sentences will run concurrent to one another. The possession charge was prosecuted as a felony because Van Buskirk has six previous convictions related to drug possession. Van Buskirk received 179 days of credit for time served and was ordered to pay $575 in various court costs and fees.
