Johnson County to Get Update on Carbon Creek/Midstream

Johnson County will get an update on the status of the dispute with Carbon Creek Energy and Powder River Midstream during their meeting Tuesday.
The issue stems from tax assessment disputes on minerals extracted in the county over the last few years, with the company saying they owed less in taxes than the county assessor had claimed.
Johnson County has millions of dollars held in escrow, but still more millions that have not been paid due to the tax protests.
At their last meeting December 3rd the commissioners, acting as the County Board of Equalization, voted to lift stays in the legal fight and set a date to convene a final evidentiary hearing to try to resolve the issue.
After discussions between the BOE, Attorney Barry Crago, and Hearing Officer Chris Wages, the BOE chose to lift the stays and scheduled Tuesday, January 28th for the final hearing, as recommended by Crago, to give him and the legal team for the Carbon Creek/Midstream the opportunity to gather the necessary materials for the hearing.
The entities involved have been in contact with each other and the BOE is expected to get an update on the current situation.
