The Northern Wyoming Community College District is working its way through their current financial situation and the COVID pandemic.

Now the board of trustees wants to keep the president on board to help with a potential separation from within the district.

The board recently added 1-year to the rolling 3-year contract of President Doctor Walter Tribley, who has been president since July 2019.

Board Chairwoman Debra Wendtland says Dr. Tribley has done an excellent job of getting through the district through a tough year, considering all that has happened in such a short time, and what situations are on the horizon.

“An unprecedented year. If you consider the state financial crisis…we were in financial exigency for a good 12 months as a college, through a national pandemic and then also the extraordinary situation of dealing with the question of will part of our district leave and create its own district. All issues that no one anticipated would happen certainly all at one time.”

In about three weeks, voters from Campbell County will go to the polls in a special vote to see if Gillette College will separate from the district and be on its own.

Although he was awarded another year to his contract, Dr. Tribley’s salary and benefits remain the same.
