Little To No Change In WY Unemployment Numbers From April To May 2021

The month to month unemployment rates for Wyoming are starting to level out, which is normal for this time of year.
The Research and Planning section of the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services says unemployment rates from April to May of 2021, were at 5.4% for both months.
That’s much lower than the May 2020 rate of 8.5%, and slightly lower than the current U.S. unemployment rate of 5.8%.
Weston County had the lowest unemployment rate for May 2021 at 3.9%, while Natrona County had the highest at 6.9%.
Sheridan County’s unemployment rate for May 2021 was at 4.9%, which is down from 5.3% in April, while Johnson County was at 4.7% for May, which is down from 5.3% the month before.
The month of May usually means an increase in the number of seasonal job gains in leisure and hospitality, construction, professional and business services, and government.
Compared to May of 2020, the May 2021 unemployment numbers are down in every Wyoming county, because of last year’s COVID pandemic.
In terms of unemployment percentage numbers, the state numbers are down from 8.7% to 5.4%.
The biggest May to May one-year drop was in Teton County which was at 7.1% and is now at 5.9%.
Sheridan County dropped from 7.4% to 4.9%, while Johnson County dropped from 8.0% to 4.7%.
The Department of Workforce Services adds that the number of nonfarm employment rose by 10,000 jobs during the past year.
