JCSD1 Superintendent’s Report to School Board

Superintendent Jim Wagner, in his written report to the Johnson County school board at their meeting this month, said the district, as of April 9th, had one positive COVID case and three people subject to quarantine.
The project to add an orchard next to the Administration Building has begun with the removal of the existing Russian Olive trees and the cleanup of the lot in preparation for the planting of fruit trees which he said will provide food for the community food pantry and improve the appearance of the area.
Wagner said the recent decision by the legislature not to cut school funding means they will continue to fund them at the current model, and the reductions in the district through retirements will help make the transition easier in the near future, moving the district closer to the funding model with enrollment numbers.
He also recommended the board and administration to look at facilities to determine what should be done for long-term needs, believing there may be one more year of extra tax dollars that may be used for equipment needs for the district.
