The Sheridan Economic and Educational Development Authority has given approval for Weatherby to build a second stand-alone powder magazine near the company’s manufacturing building.

Approval came in a special meeting of the development authority – better known as SEEDA – Wednesday.

Last January, SEEDA approved one storage facility for ammunition, but SEEDA Administrator Robert Briggs said a second storage unit is needed because of the huge demand for ammunition right now as well as challenges with supply. On Briggs’ recommendation, the project was approved with conditions.

Conditions also included that the project comply with city code and state and federal regulations.

Brenda Weatherby, who’s a co-owner of the Weatherby facility, said with the second storage unit, the company will double its capacity of ammunition going out. She said that will hopefully increase the head-count of Weatherby employees.

She said the two storage units will be distant from each other as well as from roads and any vegetation. Responding to a question from SEEDA Chairman Gary Koltiska, Weatherby said the storage unit will be completely paid for by the manufacturing company.
